Private Apartment

Belgravia, London

2022 - 2024

Spanning approximately 3,000 sqft, this expansive lateral apartment underwent a comprehensive interior refurbishment, with the transformation seamlessly extending to private terraces and balconies at the rear.

Situated within a prestigious conservation area, the property's Grade II* listed status demanded an exacting approach to historical preservation. Atelier Hillier orchestrated the entire process alongside a nominated contractor, successfully navigating complex heritage surveys, acquiring listed building consent, and securing a formal Licence to Alter from the Grosvenor Estate prior to the commencement of any works.

Envisioned as the ultimate pied-à-terre, the design brief called for a grand entertaining space balanced by highly practical and considered private spaces, including a generous master suite, secondary guest suite, and a dedicated study. While the lateral footprint of the apartment was largely preserved, we entirely re-ordered the bathroom and dressing room layouts to elevate flow and functionality. Behind the new aesthetic, state-of-the-art audio-visual and security systems were discreetly integrated throughout to provide effortless, modern living.

The interior architecture is defined by a nuanced application of texture and craft. Walls are neutral - swathed in a sophisticated interplay of traditional brush paint and specialist dragged-effect plaster, while the architectural woodwork features a delicate, hand-painted strié finish. The existing floors were carefully removed and replaced with varying widths of solid oak boards, introducing a subtle, organic rhythm to the expansive spaces.

The bathrooms are draped in a carefully curated selection of marbles, featuring a refined mix of leathered, honed, and semi-polished finishes. Ensuring absolute perfection, the stone was sourced directly from Italy, requiring two dedicated visits to hand-select the finest blocks.

To complete the enveloping atmosphere, all window treatments - including elegant dress curtains, privacy shades, and blackout blinds - were meticulously handcrafted in London by master artisans. Driven by a commitment to the finest quality, these pieces were tailored in exclusive Italian fabrics and trimmings.
